Google Games?
Could Google get into gaming? Fortune’s Chris Morris thinks so.
The 10-year-old company has hired a former Sony executive to head up their games division, and while the company has denied plans to enter game publishing or development, the gaming market is huge right now, with millions of gamers right now playing casual online games like Sudoku, and MMORPGs like World of Warcraft raking in millions in revenue each month. In-game advertising is also quickly taking off. Morris speculates that Google could even tie in many existing products into potential games: imagine logging flight plans with the aid of Google Earth for example.
It's all speculation of course, but do you think Google Gaming would be good for the industry? With all the consolidation going on at the moment, another game publisher would certainly add some spice to the industry provided they could deliver a nice blend of compelling games...
